BLAST

Registrations for 2025 Dunstan High School & Maniototo Area School are now closed!

BLAST is an action-packed 8 week youth development programme designed to challenge, inspire, and empower rangatahi. Through hands-on activities, adventure-based learning, and practical life skills, BLAST helps you step outside your comfort zone, build confidence, and develop resilience. Whether you're tackling outdoor challenges, learning teamwork, or gaining skills for the future, BLAST is all about growth, connection, and having a blast along the way.

BLAST has been run by Puna Rangatahi on behalf of Blue Light NZ since 2015! Over the years, BLAST has evolved into a community-driven initiative, with support from organisations like Sport Otago and contributions from dedicated volunteers. The programme continues to thrive, offering participants a sense of accomplishment and personal growth.

The Longest Day is the final test of everything BLAST participants have learned throughout the programme. This full-day challenge pushes rangatahi to their limits—physically and mentally —through a series of demanding activities designed to test their resilience, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

From endurance tasks to strategic challenges, The Longest Day is about more than just strength—it’s about perseverance, leadership, and supporting each other to the finish line. It’s a chance for every rangatahi to showcase their growth, apply the skills they’ve developed, and walk away with a true sense of achievement.

It’s tough. It’s rewarding. And it’s an absolute BLAST!

Join us and discover what you're truly capable of!

Dunstan High School

BLAST in Alexandra runs three mornings a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) from 6-8.30am in Term 1. Running in the early mornings, this programme challenges students to step up, push their limits, and develop essential life skills through hands-on activities and adventure-based learning, before sending them off to school!

BLAST DHS is open to students at Dunstan High School in Year 9 & 10.

Maniototo Area School

Puna Rangatahi were been privileged to bring this amazing programme to the rangatahi at Maniototo Area School in 2023. BLAST runs twice a week (Monday and Thursday) during Term 1 after school, giving students the opportunity to foster confidence, perseverance, and a strong sense of camaraderie—equipping students with skills that will benefit them both in and outside the classroom.
